Think
you
have what
it
takes?
If you love the water,
great outdoors, and being part of a team, dragon
boating just may be the sport for you! Dragon boating is not a new
sport, but it may be new to you. Dragon boating is a team
paddling sport, dating back to over 2500 years, and enjoys an important rich
history as part of ancient agricultural Chinese society. Today it enjoys
popularity internationally, and is a growing sport right here in the United
States. Wanting to give it a try,
but don’t have any idea how? The opportunity to dragon boat has been available
right here in West Michigan for many years at a local venue! Kicking off the summer
season each year, South Haven, MI hosts its annual Harbor Festival where
for years dragon boating has been a featured event. This year’s Harbor
Fest takes place June 19th and 20th, 2010.
Teams are comprised of 10 people at this two day festival, with levels of
competition from “just here for fun” to racing top teams all the way from
Canada and Iowa. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Novices are welcomed and encouraged! All equipment is provided. Practices
are available before the event to get your feel for the sport. Team space is limited to the first twenty teams, so sign your team up early! Medals go to the top three teams in four divisions, So whether you’re a hard core athlete wanting to try a new challenge, or simply an outdoor enthusiast ready to try something different, dragon boating could be your next venture!
